Vagharshak Zakaryan was born in 1955 in Yerevan. In 1983 he graduated from Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, afterward, in 1987 postgraduate studies at professor Edward Mirzoyan’s class. In 1980 his "Piano Sonata" won first prize at the International Composers' Competition in Moscow. In the early 1990s, he moved to Moscow, where he worked as the head of the music department of Praktika Publishing House. Vagharshak Zakaryan was the author and initiators of “The Grove Concise Dictionary of Music” musical dictionary that was published in Russian. 2003-2007 in Moscow, he worked at the “Musika” state publishing house as a deputy director. In 2004 he organized corporate music event in Moscow Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in participation with famous musicians as Denis Matsuev and Boris Brovtsin. Vagharshak Zakaryan cooperates with the legendary musician like Yuri Bashmet. In 2007, as a result, the premiere of Vagharshak Zakaryan’s “Entsa ev Aghers” composition took place in the great hall of Moscow conservatory in participation with “Soloists of Moscow” and Yuri Bashmet.
Vagharshak Zakaryan is a member of the Union of Composers of Russia in Moscow. His compositions were performed in the USA, Europe, former countries of the Soviet Union. He works both in the chamber and symphonic genres. Vagharshak Zakaryan composed music for films and theatrical performances.
